F&B, quick commerce log 40-50% sales jump on T20 final night

F&B and quick commerce companies saw an upto 40%-50% uptick in sales and revenues on Saturday nightthanks to the T20 World Cup final and India’s victory against South Africa.Merchant checkout network Simpl said it witnessed a 40% surge in consumer spending on its platform during the final. Nitya Sharma, founder and CEO of Simpl said Indians’ support and celebration was quite evident in their online spending patterns with a nearly 40% jump in quick commerce spends as against last year’s 50-over World Cup final. “This was consistent during the match with 8 pm – 11 pm witnessing the most daily spends on quick commerce via Simpl’s 1-tap checkout,” he said.

“The match day’s highlights also included the highest spends at Rs 16,410 on quick commerce, a single consumer undertaking 59 transactions along with a significant rise in orders placed under Rs 100 via Simpl on platforms including Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and Porter, which rose by 35% as against last year’s final in November,” he added.

Virat Kohli‘s one8 Commune restaurant was fully sold out in Mumbai. Rahul Singh, founder and CEO of The Beer Cafe said the chain saw its highest single day revenue since its inception 12 years ago.

A senior manager at MGF Metropolitan Mall in Gurgaon, said through the entire mall, restaurants and bars were choc-a-bloc by Saturday evening. “We’ve never seen such a massive turnout on a Saturday evening,” the person added.

Divya Aggarwal, chief growth officer, Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality said the company saw an incredible turnout at its SOCIAL outlets across India.

“Our outlets were packed with reservations and guests were eager to share this momentous occasion with their gang. The atmosphere was electric, with a 10-15% increase in overall order volumes and guests spending more time at our outlets as the match progressed to its thrilling conclusion,” she added. Suren Joshi, co-founder of the Charlee restaurant in Mumbai said his restaurant saw a ‘remarkable’ 50% increase in sales. “This surge not only highlighted the restaurant’s popularity among cricket enthusiasts but also foreshadowed promising prospects for future events,” he added.
Eesha Sukhi, founder, The Bluebop Cafe
said her outlet saw a 15% increase in revenue on Saturday.

“Events like these are fantastic for business, as they create a lively atmosphere and draw in both regulars and new customers demonstrating the power of sports in bringing the community together,” she said.

Guneet Singh, F&B manager at Sesame, Hyatt Centric Juhu said he saw a 15% increase in revenue from the bar.

“The lively crowd, combined with great food and drinks, made it a night to remember,” he added.
